Whether you have considered running for office, supporting a candidate, volunteering during the election process, or simply participating as an informed voter, we encourage every member to become involved.
The strength of our union depends on active participation from the membership. Elections provide an opportunity for members to help shape the direction of Local 1168, select their leadership, and ensure that the voices of our bargaining units are represented.
All elections will be conducted in accordance with Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) guidelines to ensure a fair, transparent, and democratic process. In simple terms, this means eligible members have the right to nominate candidates, seek office, vote by secret ballot, and participate in an election process that is conducted fairly and equally for all members.
In addition to candidates for office, we will also be seeking volunteers to assist with staffing election sites should contested elections become necessary. More information regarding nominations, election timelines, and volunteer opportunities will be shared in the coming months.
We encourage all members to review the attached Election Committee update for additional details regarding the upcoming election cycle and positions that will be open for nomination.
If you have questions about the election process, are interested in learning more about serving in a leadership role, or simply want additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Election Committee Chair Denise Abbott by calling the Local office at 716-639-1168 or by emailing dabbott@cwa1168.org. As always, members are also welcome to reach out to their Union Representative, Area Vice President, or the Local office with any questions.
Your union works best when members are engaged. We encourage you to stay informed, participate in the process, and consider how you can help shape the future of CWA Local 1168.
