Public Meeting Regarding MRU Closure at BGMC

Kaleida Health has announced plans to significantly reduce the number of beds in the Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU) at Buffalo General Medical Center, from 34 beds down to 16, pending approval from the New York State Department of Health. This proposed change has serious implications for patient care, staffing, and access to critical rehabilitation services in our community.

A public meeting has been scheduled to discuss this proposal, and it is critical that union members attend and make their voices heard.

Public Meeting Details:

Thursday, February 19 @ 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in Swift Auditorium, Buffalo General Medical Center

100 High Street, Buffalo, NY 14203

Virtual option: https://tinyurl.com/3rdjx8ak or phone in: 1-408-418-9388 || Passcode: 23446333246##

CWA Local 1168 is strongly encouraging members—especially those directly affected by the MRU changes—to attend this meeting. This is a formal opportunity for workers to speak up, share their experiences, and put real human impact behind these decisions.

If you are an MRU worker or otherwise impacted and are willing to share your story or provide public comment, we want to hear from you. Your voice matters, and collective participation strengthens our ability to advocate for safe staffing, quality patient care, and good union jobs.

Written comments will also be accepted at the meeting and for one week afterward. Please reach out to your steward, AVP, or the Local 1168 office if you have questions or would like support in preparing comments or attending the meeting.

When decisions affect patient care and workers’ livelihoods, silence is not an option.

Show up. Speak out. Stand together.
